Guest blog: Alison Webster on ‘Collectives: our hope for the future’

One of the greatest joys of community organising is how it enables you to make connections with people who share a similar passion for utilising organising practices to transform church and community. Alison Webster, who is Mission Theologian in Residence for Citizens UK and General Secretary of Modern Church (www.modernchurch.org.uk), is one such person. Alison has been a key conversation partner for both Eddy and I throughout the pilot, generously giving her time for one-to-one conversations and encouraging us to consider what it is that the Methodist Church has to offer that is distinctive of our charisms and heritage.

We are so grateful to Alison for giving us permission to share the following article, originally written for the Methodist Recorder, which we think gives a really helpful and encouraging insight into how organising practices offer us hope for the future:

As part of Alison’s role with Citizens UK, she organises regular ‘Learning Thursday’ sessions on Zoom to enable faith leaders to reflect on the impact of organising in their contexts. On Thursday, 9th November, at 16:00, Alison and I, along with other Methodist organisers, will be leading a session entitled ‘How involvement in Community Organising can transform congregational life in the Methodist Church.’ To book your place, click the link below:
